Sylhet Mayor Ariful announces the boycott of city elections

Dhaka, May 21: BNP leader Ariful Haque Chowdhury has announced the boycott of the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation (CCIC) elections. He announced this at a civic gathering held at the Sylhet Registry Ground on Saturday (May 20) afternoon.

City Election: Police must be informed 24 hours before house meetings

Dhaka, May 6: In the upcoming five city elections, the candidate or any political party on his behalf will not be able to hold any meetings other than road meetings or house meetings.

Awami League candidates announced in 5 cities

Dhaka, April 15: Awami League has announced the party's candidate for the upcoming five city corporation elections. According to the party decision, the previous mayors of Barisal and Gazipur City Corporation have dropped out. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, a new face in local politics, has been nominated in Sylhet.

BNP will have veiled independent candidates in the city elections as well: Quader

Dhaka, April 11: Awami League General Secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that BNP did not have the party symbol (grain of rice) in various municipal, upazila and union level elections, but their candidates wore veils in all places. Candidates wearing this veil will also be present in the city elections. Sylhet's current mayor Arif has already announced that they have veiled candidates in other cities.
