City Election: Police must be informed 24 hours before house meetings

Dhaka, May 6: In the upcoming five city elections, the candidate or any political party on his behalf will not be able to hold any meetings other than road meetings or house meetings.

Election Commission (EC) Deputy Secretary of the Election Management Branch Md. Atiyar Rahman said that instructions have been sent to the returning officers recently to inform the candidates. It has been said that no candidate or any political party on his behalf, any other person, organization or organization can hold any public meeting or procession except road meeting and house meeting.

If you want to hold road meeting and house meeting, you should inform the local police authority about the place and time of the proposed meeting at least 24 hours in advance, so that the police authority can take necessary measures to maintain the traffic and law and order at the place.

Besides, no road meeting or any platform for that purpose shall be constructed on any road which may obstruct the movement of people. Can't obstruct or create any disturbance in opposition rally or house meeting or other campaign pand.

Election campaigning has not started yet. In this case, the candidates can campaign with the allocation of symbols. According to the schedule announced by EC, the appeal process of Gazipur city election is currently going on, the deadline for disposal of appeal is 7 May. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 8. Allotment of symbols will be held on May 9 and voting will be held on May 25. That is, the campaign can be carried out in this city from May 9.

Khulna and Barisal city elections deadline for submission of nomination papers is May 16, selection is May 18. The deadline for filing appeals against the Returning Officer's decision is May 21. The deadline for disposal of appeals by the Appellate Authority is May 24. Last date for withdrawal is 25th May, allotment of symbols is 26th May and voting is 12th June. Campaigning in these two city elections can be done from May 26.

And in Rajshahi and Sylhet city elections, the deadline for filing nomination papers is 23 May, and selection is on 25 May. The deadline for filing appeals with the Appellate Authority is May 28. And the last time for disposal of appeal by the appellate authority is 31 May. Deadline for withdrawal is June 1, symbol allocation is June 2 and voting is June 21. Campaigning for these two city polls can be done from June 2.
