135 leader-activists of BNP-Jamaat sentenced to prison in separate sabotage cases

Dhaka, Dec 22: The court ordered 135 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists to be jailed for different terms in five cases of sabotage committed in Turag, Rampura, Mirpur, Hazaribagh and Banshal police station areas of the capital. Besides, the court acquitted 100 people as the charges were not proved. Five separate metropolitan magistrate courts of Dhaka announced the verdict on Thursday.

Bills in Parliament with provision of penalty for buying savings certificates with false information

Dhaka, November 16: A bill has been raised in the parliament with the provision of penalty for buying savings certificates with false information. The bill has been brought for repeal by repealing the law of 1988. The draft law states that any person who gives false information to acquire the rights to a certificate issued under a government security or national savings scheme on behalf of himself or anyone else will be liable to imprisonment for a maximum of six months or a maximum fine of taka one lakh. The current law did not specify fines.

Dhaka, September 7: The cabinet has given final approval to the draft of the 'Government Debt Act, 2021' with a provision of maximum six months jail or a fine of Tk 1,00,000 or both for giving false information to buy savings certificates. The approval was given at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (September 6). From Ganobhaban, the Prime Minister and Ministers and State Ministers from the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat joined the meeting via video conference.
