Electricity production to start in Payra on Sunday

Dhaka, June 23: A ship named 'MV Athena' is staying at Payra port with 41 thousand 207 tons of coal. The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel from Indonesia arrived at the inner anchorage of Payra Port at around 2 AM on Friday. The authorities have made all preparations to start the plant on Sunday, June 25.

Power cuts: Rampal thermal power station is showing a ray of hope

Dhaka, June 10: Payra in Patuakhali on June 5 and Banshkhali thermal power station in Chittagong were shut down on June 9 due to coal shortage. Despite such bad news, the Rampal thermal power station located near Bagerhat's Mongla Port and Sundarbans is showing a ray of hope. The Chinese-flagged ship MV J Hai, which left Indonesia with coal for the thermal power plant, arrived at Mongla port early on Saturday morning.

Coal shortage forces Payra thermal power plant to close down

Dhaka, June 5: Due to the coal shortage, the electricity generation of Payra thermal power plant was stopped at 12:30 pm on Monday. This is the first time that the power plant has been completely shut down since its inception. A unit was shut down on May 25 due to coal shortage. The remaining unit was closed today. This has resulted in terrible load shedding across the country, including Patuakhali. The 1,320 MW Payra Thermal Power Station was the source of electricity for the entire region of Barisal, Khulna and some parts of Dhaka.

India sends first consignment of coal for Rampal power plant

Dhaka, July 3: India has sent the first shipment of coal to Bangladesh via the Sundarbans for the Rampal Power Plant at Bagerhat. About 4,000 metric tonnes of coal was exported to Bangladesh from Netaji Subhash Dock (NSD) at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port (SMP) in Kolkata on Friday. This has been reported by Indian media sources.
