When the month of Ramadan comes, this foreign fruit is at the peak of consumer demand. Every year, the price of dates increases slightly during Ramadan. However, this year's price increase has surpassed all previous records.
Recommendation to reduce duty on oil, sugar, dates before Ramadan
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 24 January 2024: The Ministry of Commerce has recommended to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to reduce the duty on import of edible oil, sugar and dates in view of fasting. After a joint meeting of five ministries on commodity prices at the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday, a letter in this regard was sent to NBR from the ministry on Monday.
