After a joint meeting of five ministries on commodity prices at the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday, a letter in this regard was sent to NBR from the ministry on Monday.

According to NBR sources, a letter from the commerce ministry regarding duty reduction has been given to NBR. NBR will meet next Thursday (January 25) regarding this letter.

Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Haider Ali said that a letter has been given to NBR to reduce the duty of edible oil, sugar and dates in view of fasting. However, the NBR will decide on how much the duty rate will be reduced.

Prices of sugar, soybean oil and gram have increased. These products are being sold at increased prices before the month of fasting comes. In such a situation, the businessmen of various sectors have been demanding to reduce the duty for several months.
