Parliament passes Finance Bill-2023

Dhaka, June 26: Finance Bill-2023 has been passed in fixed form with some amendments on Sunday, abolishing the provision of mandatory income tax return of Tk 2,000 for every TIN holder. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed the passage of the bill in Parliament. This bill was brought to implement the financial proposals of the government and to amend some laws.

The bill approves fiscal provisions for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023, amendments to some existing laws, and tax proposals.

The proposed value added tax (VAT) on manufacture of ball point pens has been reduced from 15 per cent to 5.0 per cent in the Finance Bill. In the process of passing the bill, public opinion verification, sending to the selection committee and amendment proposal of government party Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, Salim Altaf George, Jatiya Party's Kazi Feroz Rashid, Fakhrul Imam, Shamim Haider Patwari, Mujibul Haque, Md. Rustam Ali Faraji, Roshan Ara Mannan, Kazi Feroz Rashid and Ganoforum's Mokabbir Khan participated in the discussion.

The Finance Minister accepted several proposals in Amendment List No. 2 and 2(a) of the Finance Bill. The rest of the proposals were rejected by voice vote.
