Remaining of Adani's power starts coming from India's Jharkhand

Dhaka, June 28: The second unit of Adani Group's power generation plant at Godda in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand has also finally successfully entered 'commercial operation'. As a result, uninterrupted power supply of 748 MW has started in Bangladesh from that unit, which is expected to play a big positive role in dealing with the power crisis of the country.

Earlier, the first unit of Adani Power Jharkhand Limited with a capacity of 2×800 MW at Godda was commissioned last April. Since then the electricity generated in Godda was being supplied to Bangladesh. But Bangladesh could not reap the full benefits of this project until the second unit was commissioned. By now, the imperfection of that power plant has been removed.

The Adani Group has not announced through any press statement or press conference that the second unit of the thermal power plant will go into commercial operation. Rather, this information has come forward today through the company's stock filing in the stock exchange of India.

The company stated in the stock filing: "Adani Power Jharkhand Limited's ('APJL', a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Power Limited) 2×800 MW ultra-supercritical power project in Godda district of Jharkhand is the second unit of 800 MW Bangladesh time. Achieved commercial operations on June 25 night."

Earlier, the unit had also successfully passed the reliability run tests as per the terms of the contract.

After this, the share price of Adani Power on the Mumbai Stock Exchange rose almost 3 percent. Adani Power's share price touched around Rs 250 per share at around 2 pm, crossing Rs 251 by the end of the day.

The fact that the Adani Group has managed to commission the second unit at Godda within two and a half months of commissioning the first unit despite the huge shortage of fuel coal at the international level is probably the reason why the stock market investors have faith in them.

Although the work of Adani's power plant at Godda has been repeatedly delayed, in September last year its chairman Gautam Adani met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Delhi and promised that electricity from the plant would start flowing to Bangladesh on Victory Day (December 16).

Even though that 'deadline' was missed, Bangladesh started getting electricity from Godda within four months. And within two months of that, the remaining half of the electricity from that center has started coming to Bangladesh.
