A cause whose time has come: Recognition of the 1971 Bangladesh Genocide

July 11: In 1971 the deaths of three million people, the rape of more than 200,000 women, the ten million who fled for their lives and took refuge in India, and the thirty million who were internally displaced, shocked many people around the world. The attempt by the Pakistan military to destroy the Bengalis as a people during the Bangladesh War of Independence was recognised, at least by some, for what it was. The headline in the London Sunday Times read simply ‘Genocide’.

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 26: "It is important that the March 25, 1971 genocide be recognized internationally" — expressing this opinion, Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said that Pakistan should be tried in the international court for the crime of genocide that took place at that time under the country's direction.

Genocide: Remains found now at the Liberation War Research Center

Own correspondent, Dhaka, 11 December: Massacre took place on 20 August 1971 in Laxmipur village of Atgharia upazila of Pabna. Twenty-six Hindus and two Muslims were brutally killed by make them stand in a line. A month ago, the Department of Public Works started the construction of a memorial at the massacre site in Laxmipur. During the excavation, the remains of several victims were found. In order to keep them in the museum of the Liberation War in the appropriate process the remains was handed over to Project Director of the Research Center for Genocide-Torture and Liberation War, Professor Muntasir Mamun.

Geneva: European Bangladesh Forum demonstrates seeking international recognition of 1971 genocide

Geneva, October 1: A joint team of European Bangladesh Forum and Switzerland Human Rights Commission Bangladesh held a demonstration in front of the Broken Chair, United Nations in Geneva, demanding international recognition of 1971 genocide, perpetuated by Pakistani forces.
