Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 26: "It is important that the March 25, 1971 genocide be recognized internationally" — expressing this opinion, Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said that Pakistan should be tried in the international court for the crime of genocide that took place at that time under the country's direction.

He made the remarks at a discussion on the occasion of Genocide Day on Friday (March 25) evening. During this meeting, candles were lit, tributes were paid to the memory of the martyrs, and a documentary on the horrific history of the black night of March 25 was shown.

Professor Akhtaruzzaman said that Dhaka University campus is the only center of genocide in the history of the world. Because it was from this campus that a strong resistance was formed against the Pakistani evil forces under the leadership of Bangabandhu. Today, the best way to implement Bangabandhu's ideology is to move forward with the goal of building a non-communal Bangladesh by holding his consciousness in the path shown by him. Which his worthy daughter Deshratna Sheikh Hasina is doing very well.

The Vice-Chancellor further said that it is a fiery month. On that day, there was no facility of Dhaka University which was not attacked by the Pakistani aggressors. The hoisting of the flag at Dhaka University in this great month and Bangabandhu's historic speech on March 7 just four days after that were the two historic events which dealt a severe blow to the state structure of Pakistan and brought the collapse of the state of Pakistan very close. On that day, they carried out this brutal murder on the pretext of religion.

Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad said that the war of liberation started from the night of March 25. Thousands were killed that day. The killings took place not only in Dhaka but also in other parts of the country. History has been distorted by killing Bangabandhu. That is why the trial of the intellectuals was postponed. We have not been able to judge Razakars and Al-Badrs for a long time. To kill Bangabandhu means to bring Bangladesh back to the 1947s.

At 9 pm, candles were lit at Jagannath Hall and prayers were offered in different places of worship for the souls of the patriots who died in the massacre.
