Dhaka, June 11, 2023: Like in the past few years, preparations have been made for the sacrifice of the country's animals during Qurbani Eid.
1 crore 25 lakh sacrificial animals are ready for the upcoming sacrifice season. Due to this the illegal entry of cattle from India and Myanmar has been strictly stopped at the border.
Nahid Rashid, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, said this in response to questions from journalists during an agro inspection in Mohammadpur area of the capital on Saturday.
He said that more animals are ready for sacrifice than last Eid-ul-Azha.
"This number may increase. So this time there will be no need to import any animals from outside the country. So we have increased surveillance in border areas. For this reason, regular contact is being made with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) so that no animal enters from outside," he said.
The secretary said that last year there were 1 crore 21 lakh animals eligible for sacrifice. But last year, 99 lakh 50 thousand animals were sacrificed on Eid-ul-Azha. Accordingly, even if the sacrifices increase this time, there will not be a shortage of animals.
Meanwhile, in view of the demands of the farmers, the secretary assured about the addition of 999 so that no one would be subjected to unnecessary harassment or extortion by the sellers of sacrificial animals from different parts of the country or at the farmer level before Eid. Apart from this, if there is a need to add any other hotline number, it will also be finalized in the inter-ministerial meeting on June 14, he said.
On the other hand, about reducing the price of animal feed, director general of the directorate of livestock. Emdadul Haque Talukder said, in the meantime, we have been able to reduce the price of fodder a little. Our efforts continue. But now a lot of grass is being produced in different parts of the country. As a result, I was able to reduce the price a lot. I hope to be able to further reduce the price of food items from next two-three months.
