Chilly prices drops to Tk 200 day after import

Dhaka, July 3: After the arrival of raw chilli imported from India, the price of the product in the capital Dhaka has started to fall. In the meantime, the wholesale price of raw chillies has come down below Tk 200. And at the retail level, a kg of raw chillies is available for Tk 250, which rose to Tk 600 two days ago.

On Monday (July 3) morning, most of the retail traders in various bajaos of the capital are selling raw chili poa (250 grams) for Tk. 60. Besides, raw chili is being sold at 160 to 200 taka per kg.

Recently, the price of raw chili has suddenly increased in the country's market. On June 25, the government allowed the import of green chillies due to an abnormal increase in prices. On that day, the Ministry of Agriculture informed that 11 thousand 600 tons of green chillies have been allowed to be imported in 30 IPs throughout the day (June 25).

On June 26, the price of raw chilli rose by Tk 100 per kg in capital markets after the government allowed importation. On June 25, a kg of raw chilli touched Tk 300. On June 26, it increased to Tk 400.

After Eid, the price of green chillies will increase again. Last Saturday, raw chillies were sold at Tk 600 per kg in different markets of the capital. However, after the arrival of imported green chillies in the country, the price decreased slightly yesterday morning and was sold at Tk 480 to Tk 500.

In this situation, information regarding the import of green pepper was released from the Ministry of Agriculture in the afternoon. It was informed by the Ministry of Agriculture that after the Eid holiday, 55 tons of green pepper arrived in the country till 5 pm on Sunday.

It was also informed by the Ministry of Agriculture that till now 36 thousand 830 tons of green chillies have been allowed to be imported. A total of 93 tons have arrived in the country. After the release of this information by the Ministry of Agriculture, the price of green chillies fell to Tk 300 per kg before evening. And since this morning, a kg of raw chili has gone below Tk 200.

Farid Hossain, a businessman of Karwan Bazar, said that the supply of green chillies in the market was reduced due to the destruction of fields in the rain. Due to this, the price increased abnormally. Now the imported raw chillies are in the market. Due to this, the price has decreased.
