Denmark is interested in investing $130 crore in wind power generation

Dhaka, July 19: Denmark has expressed interest in investing USD 130 crore in offshore wind power generation in Bangladesh. Ambassador of Denmark Winnie Estrup Petersen expressed this interest during a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim quoted the ambassador after the meeting and said that Denmark is interested in investing 130 crore US dollars in Bangladesh for the production of wind power in offshore areas.

The press secretary said that the Prime Minister sought the help of friendly countries like Denmark for the development of Bangladesh. In this context, Sheikh Hasina mentioned that Bangladesh has established 100 special economic zones across the country where both foreign and domestic investments are required.

The Prime Minister and Ambassador appreciated the 50 years of development partnership between Bangladesh and Denmark. The Ambassador highly praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership in socio-economic development of Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina said that her government has reduced the poverty rate in the country to a large extent. The government has emphasized on the development of women's sports. We have long struggled for democracy in the country.

Denmark's ambassador said her country is the sixth largest exporter of ICT in the world. In this context, Sheikh Hasina said that the ICT sector of Bangladesh is also advancing rapidly.

"The two countries can enhance cooperation in various fields, including human development. We have achieved a lot through cooperation," Petersen said.

She has spent good time with good friends in Bangladesh. She presented some books to the Prime Minister on the occasion of 50 years of development partnership. The Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Mohammad Salahuddin was present at this time.
