Dhaka, March 14: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Farooq Khan urged Japan to invest in the development of the tourism industry in Bangladesh.

The Minister made this call during a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The minister said, "Bangladesh ensures the best investment environment in South Asia. In addition to increasing domestic tourists in Bangladesh, various measures are being taken to attract foreign tourists. Japanese investment in developing our existing tourism infrastructure and building new tourist centers will be considered as a profitable venture."

The Minister of Tourism assured all kinds of cooperation to the Japanese investors on behalf of the government.

Farooq Khan said that the friendship between Bangladesh and Japan has now reached a strategic level. Japan is a proven development partner of Bangladesh. Japan is already working to develop Bangladesh's aviation sector. JICA has financed the construction of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. In addition to strengthening cooperation in the aviation sector, there is an opportunity for the two countries to work together for the development of tourism in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Iwama Kiminori said, "Japan is happy to be a partner in the development of Bangladesh's aviation industry. The experience of working together with Bangladesh in the construction of the third terminal is excellent. We hope to start full operation of the third terminal soon. Besides, Biman's Dhaka-Narita direct flight has already created a positive attitude among Japanese passengers about the inflight service."
