Dhaka, April 11: At the request of the Ministry of Finance, the price of fertilizer had to be increased. Agriculture Minister Md. Abdur Razzak said that if the price in the global market is reduced, the price of fertilizer will be reduced in the country's market as well. The minister said this while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Tuesday.

Earlier, on April 3, the agriculture minister said that the price of fertilizer will not be increased this year. But within seven days, the price of fertilizer was increased.

Considering the global economic situation and the overall situation of the country, the government has been forced to increase the price of fertilizers, the agriculture minister said, due to the increase in the price, there will be pressure on the farmers, but the production will not decrease. We would like to compensate the loss of the farmer in seed or otherwise.

He said, "I did not want the price of fertilizer to increase in any way. But the Ministry of Finance was in a firm position that the price should be increased. The Prime Minister also said not to increase the price of fertilizer, but at the request of the Ministry of Finance, it had to be increased."

"But the increase in prices has not been compared to the increase in global fertilizer prices. Still, the government has to subsidize huge amounts of fertilizer. However, if global prices come down, fertilizer prices will be adjusted. Until Boro rice is in high demand, then the demand for fertilizers will come down. So It won't be too much of a problem at this price."

Earlier on Monday (April 10), the Ministry of Agriculture issued an order to increase the prices of urea, DAP, TSP and MOP fertilizers by Tk 5 per kg, which was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture on Tuesday morning. According to the ministry, the price of chemical fertilizers per kg has been increased at the level of farmers and dealers due to the increase in the price in the international market. This price is effective from Monday.

The price hike has now increased from Tk 22 to Tk 27 per kg of urea and TSP, DAP from Tk 16 to Tk 21, MOP fertilizer from Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg.

On the other hand, the price of urea and TSP has increased by Tk 5 to Tk 25 per kg, DAP to Tk 19 and MOP to Rs Tk per kg at the dealer level, which was earlier Tk 20 for urea and TSP, Tk 14 for DAP and Tk 13 for MOP.
