One and a half crore bribe transaction: ACC Director General's PA arrested

Dhaka, June 24: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director General (Money Laundering) PA Gautam Bhattacharya and a sacked police constable were arrested while accepting a bribe of Tk 1.5 crore. Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested four persons including these two from a hotel in Motijheel on Friday.

The arrested are - ACC Director General (Money Laundering) PA Gautam Bhattacharya, sacked police constable Md Esken Ali Khan, Habibur Rahman and Paritosh Mondal. During the arrest, four packets of sweets, one and a half lakh cash, four mobile phones, a khaki envelope with ACC monogram and an ACC notice were recovered from them.

DB Chief Additional Commissioner of Police Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid said this at a press conference held at DMP Media Center on Saturday (June 24). DB Chief Additional Commissioner of Police Mohammad Haroon Or Rasheed spoke at the press conference.

He said that a businessman was being harassed by issuing a letter in the name of ACC on false charges. In this circle are the PA of the Director General of the ACC, policeman (dismissed) Esken Ali Khan and two brokers Habibur Rahman, Paritosh Mondal.

Ashikuzzaman is a businessman from Baitul Mukarram area of the capital. Dalal Chakra gave him a letter in the name of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The circle told Ashikuzzaman that a case has been registered against him in ACC. The gang first demanded Tk 5 crore and then Tk 2 crore from him to save him from this case.

The gang then asked the victim to come to a hotel in Motijheel with money in packets of sweets. The Lalbagh Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) was already conducting intelligence surveillance in this regard. Later, four members of the gang came to the hotel to collect the demanded money and were arrested.
