Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 20, 2024: In the space of a week and a half, the price of onion has decreased by Tk 40 to Tk 50 per kg in the Hili market of Dinajpur. Onions priced at Tk 90 to Tk 100 per kg are now being sold at Tk 50 per kg.

Traders say that the price of onion has started to decrease due to the news of onion import from India. And ordinary buyers are happy because the price of onion has come down. Onion which was sold in the retail market for Tk 90 to Tk 100 per kg a week and a half ago is now being sold at Tk 50. At the beginning of Ramadan, the price of onion has fallen due to the news of import of onion from India to the domestic market. Also, due to the increase in the import of onion in the country, the price is decreasing.

Market trader Sohel Rana said that the price of onion has decreased. Now selling onions is not making much profit. Sometimes it has to be bought wholesale for Tk 50 and retailed at Tk 50 per kg. Rafiqul Islam, who came to buy onion in Heli market, said that the price of onion has reduced a lot this year compared to other Ramadan months. Onion is a very useful product during Ramadan. Two weeks ago I bought onions for 90 to 100 taka per kg. I bought five kg today as it was 50 taka per kg.

Ferdous Rahman, a wholesale trader of onions in Hili Bazar, said that the current onion is losing Tk 20 per kg. Last two days ago I bought onions wholesale from Mokam for 70 taka per kg. Today, I am selling those onions wholesale for Tk 50 per kg. Due to the sudden heavy import of onion in Mokam and the news of onion import from India, the prices fell. But if Indian onion is imported then the price will come down further.
