Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Imran Ahmad gave this information in response to a question asked by Member of Parliament for Bhola-2 Ali Azam during the question and answer session of the National Parliament on Monday, June 26. Speaker Dr. Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury chaired the question and answer table.

Foreign Employment Minister said that during the same period (June 15, 2022) of the last financial year (2021-22), 9 lakh seven thousand seven people went abroad. 15.59 percent more workers have gone abroad in the current financial year than last year.

In response to the question of government member of Parliament Habibur Rahman, Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Imran Ahmed said that there is a plan to sign agreements with new countries for the purpose of exporting manpower.

Agreements are currently in progress with Libya, Malta, Albania, Romania and Serbia. In response to the question of Nurannabi Chowdhury, a member of parliament from the ruling party, the Expatriate Welfare Minister said that since the establishment of the Expatriate Welfare Bank till June 13, various types of immigration loans of Tk 2,813.6 million have been distributed to 1 lakh 14 thousand 521 expatriates.

In response to the question of Dhaka-11 Constituency Member of Parliament AKM Rahmatullah, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that the present government has taken and implemented various initiatives for the development of tea industry. As a result, 93.83 million kg of tea has been produced in the financial year 2021-22. Till May of the current financial year 2022-23, 76 percent of the tea export target has been achieved.

He said that earlier the domestic demand of tea in the country was less than the production. Then there was more tea surplus and more tea was exported. At present the demand of tea in the country is about 100 million kg. As people's purchasing power increases, all the tea produced in the country is used to meet domestic demand. There is not much surplus tea for export. To increase the export of tea, the government as well as the tea board has taken various steps to increase the production of quality tea.
