Prime Minister expects large-scale UAE investment in Bangladesh

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 11: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the UAE business community to invest in large scale in Bangladesh's specialized economic zones and high-tech parks, especially in readymade garments, leather goods, jute and jute products, food products and ICT and ITES (IT related services).

She said, "Our economic markets are now ready to offer advanced private equity and fin-tech solutions. The dream of a digital Bangladesh that we dreamed of almost twelve years ago has now come true. That is why I invite you to be our partner."

The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing a joint business council (JBC) organized by the business community of Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates from her virtual meeting room in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

Referring to various steps taken by her government to create an investment-friendly environment for foreign investors, she said, "I assure you all that Bangladesh is now a country of attractive opportunities for investors."

Sheikh Hasina said, "Bangladesh is rapidly advancing in the field of urbanization, industrialization and growing telecommunication between individual governance, innovation and market system. Our goal is to connect our manufacturing equipment to the world market. Besides, there is a huge internal market of 16 crore 80 lakh people in Bangladesh. Our people are young, enterprising and ambitious."

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh's labour income is growing faster than many countries due to her government's extensive and varied innovations in agriculture, agricultural expansion, increase in production and remittances.

Later, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the FBCCI and the UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry to establish a joint business council between the two countries. FBCCI President Jasim Uddin and Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Abdullah Mohamed Al Majraoui signed the agreement on their behalf.

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman, UAE Foreign Trade Minister Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Ghodi, FBCCI President Jasim Uddin, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Abdullah Mohammed. Al-Mazrawi also spoke on the occation.
