Prime Minister proposes to give land to Saudi Arabia in economic zone

Dhaka, March 31: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has proposed to give land to oil-rich Saudi Arabia to invest in Bangladesh's special economic zone. The proposal was made by Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Bangladesh Mohamed Essa Youssef Essa Al Duhailan when he paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister on Wednesday.

The courtesy call was held at the Prime Minister's Office. Later, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters. During the meeting, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh Youssef Essa Al Duhailan apprised the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia's interest in investing in the renewable energy sector.

At the time, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh would welcome Saudi investment. Saudi investors can choose land in the special economic zone of Bangladesh.

Saudi Arabia wants Bangladesh's support in organizing Expo-2030. The Prime Minister supported Saudi Arabia in organizing the Expo-2030. She stressed the need to resolve the existing crises between the Muslim countries through dialogue. She called on the Muslim world not to invite a third country or anyone other than a Muslim country to resolve the issue.

On behalf of the King of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Ambassador handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a 10 kg envelope inlaid with gold and silver emblazoned with the words of the Holy Quran.

The Prime Minister's Press Secretary said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh to receive such a gift from the King of Saudi Arabia.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conveyed her greetings to the King of Saudi Arabia through the Ambassador for sending special gifts to the people of Bangladesh and this country. She greeted Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as the caretaker of the two holy mosques and for his contribution to the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.

The Saudi ambassador said his country's businessmen were interested in investing in the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh. He said Saudi Arabia's bilateral relations with Bangladesh would be further enhanced in the future through multilateral cooperation including Poyton, culture, trade and commerce. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of exchanging visits between the officials of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations.

Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus, among others, was present on the occasion.
