Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 26 July 2023: The first consignment of 30 lorries bought using Indian Rupee arrived from India on Tuesday evening through Benapole port. Through this, trade between Bangladesh and India has officially started in Indian Rupees. The first consignment of 30 lorries (trucks) bought from India for arrived in the country on Tuesday through Benapole land port. After 15 days of LC opening, these products arrived in the country.
According to Benapole Custom House sources, four trucks with 30 lorries worth 1 crore 23 lakh 17 thousand 760 rupees entered the port through Petrapol port in India at 6:30 pm on Tuesday. Dhaka-based Nita Company, an importer of Bangladesh, bought these lorries from Indian company Tata Motors. After importation, the consignment of goods is kept at the transshipment yard of Benapole port.
Acting Director of Benapole Port, Abdul Jalil said, "Instead of dollars, import-export with India has started in rupees. The first consignment of imports arrived at Benapole port on Tuesday. As goods are imported in rupees, the pressure on the dollar will reduce.
Mostafizur Rahman, managing director of Jessore area of importer Nita Company Limited, said, "The first consignment of goods arrived in the country after 15 days of opening the LC in Indian Rupee."
Earlier, on July 11, Bangladesh Bank and the Indian High Commission announced the use of rupees in trade between the two countries at an event in Dhaka. Exports of goods from Bangladesh to India and imports from India – both from now on – will be able to use US Dollars as well as Rupees.
Traders at the port say that trade between Bangladesh and India in rupees will increase the economic dynamics of the two countries. Trade is positive in Indian Rupee. Through this, the relationship between the two countries will reach a new height. This is a historic decision.
