Jamaat poses constant threat
Jamaat-e-Islami Acting Ameer Maqbul Ahmed and eight other leaders of the party have been arrested from a house in Dhaka on October 9 on charges of plotting to carry out subversive activities in the country. Although an array of top leaders of the organization have been convicted for their crimes against humanity in 1971 and many others have been thrown into jail, Jamaat is far from being dismantled.
Khaleda Zia unlikely to return soon
Media reports indicate that BNP chief Khaleda Zia is now preparing the roadmap for an anti-government movement to be launched after her return from London. Khaleda Zia left for London on July 15 ostensibly for treatment of her eyes and arthritis on legs. She was scheduled to return on September 15, then shifted to October 3. Now she may return on October 15, but this may change too. These date changes have been attributed to medical reasons. Several leaders say that she is okay and she prefers to stay in London to keep watch on the developments in her party and her country and to prepare the roadmap for anti-government movement.

বাংলাদেশ সরকারের লিবারেশন ওয়ার অ্যাফেয়ার্স মন্ত্রক ৯ই জুলাই, ২০১৭ একটি গেজেট বিজ্ঞপ্তির মাধ্যমে আরও ১৫ জন বীরাঙ্গনাকে ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে তাঁদের উল্লেখযোগ্য ভূমিকার জন্য স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামী হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছে। এর আগে, ২০১৫ সালের ১২ ই অক্টোবরে ৪১ জন বীরাঙ্গনার নাম ঘোষণা করা হয়েছিল। অন্যান্য স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামীদের মতই এঁদের সকলেরই বিশেষ রাষ্ট্রীয় সুবিধা এবং ভাতা প্রাপ্য।

প্রধান বিচারপতির নেতৃত্বে গঠিত সুপ্রিম কোর্টের অ্যাপেলেট ডিভিশনের তিন সদস্যের একটি বেঞ্চ ২০শে অগাস্ট তারিখে গ্লোবাল অ্যাগ্রো ট্রেড কোম্পানি (গ্যাটকো) উৎকোচ মামলার বিচার চালানোর ক্ষেত্রে নিম্ন আদালতের সামনে যে সব প্রতিবন্ধকতা ছিল, তা দূর করে দিয়েছে। এই মামলাটি চলছে বি এন পি-র চেয়ারপার্সন এবং প্রাক্তন প্রধানমন্ত্রী খালেদা জিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে।
Biranganas and freedom fighters
Liberation War Affairs Ministry of Bangladesh government issued a gazette notification on July 9, 2017 extending recognition to 15 more Biranganas (war heroines) as freedom fighters for their significant role during the country’s liberation war in 1971. Earlier, on October 12, 2015 names of 41 Biranganas were notified. All of them are entitled to state facilities and allowances at par with other freedom fighters.
Decks cleared for Khaleda Zia’s trial
A three-member bench of Appellate Division of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice has cleared on August 20 all obstructions for the lower court to continue trial proceedings of the Global Agro Tarade Company (GATCO) graft case against BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

On August 21, 2004 there was an orchestrated attack on Awami League rally in Dhaka that resulted in the death of 24 ranking Awami League leaders including Mahila Awami League President and wife of former President Zillur Rahman and injury to about 500, scores of whom were crippled for life.
Horrors of 1971 revisited
Over the last couple of years the International Crimes Tribunals have been hearing cases relating to crimes against humanity committed in 1971.Testimony by prosecution witnesses continue to revive the spectre of genocide and rape, with thousands of freedom fighters killed and dumped in mass graves and hapless women sexually assaulted and massacred.

কোটালিপাড়ায় ২০০০ সালে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার প্রাণনাশের চেষ্টার অপরাধে ঢাকার এক আদালত দশ ব্যক্তির প্রাণদণ্ডের আদেশ দিয়েছে। ওই ঘটনার সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত অন্য একটি মামলায় দোষী সাব্যস্ত হওয়া আরও ন' ব্যক্তিকে এক্সপ্লোসিভ অ্যাক্টের বিধি অনুসারে ২০ বছরের কারাদণ্ড দেওয়া হয়েছে। ঢাকা-২ স্পিডি ট্রায়াল জাজ মমতাজ বেগম ২০শে অগাস্ট এই রায় দিয়েছেন।

সম্প্রতি খুলনায় "ম্যাসাকার অফ বাংলাদেশ ইন নাইনটিন সেভেন্টি ওয়ান" শিরোনামে একটি সেমিনারে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে বিশিষ্ট পাকিস্তানি গবেষক ও লেখক বেগম আনাম জাকারিয়া বলেছেন পাকিস্তানের তরুণ প্রজন্ম ১৯৭১-এর ইতিহাস সম্পর্কে কিছু জানেনা। তাদের ইতিহাস বই শুরু হয় ১৯৪৭ সালে ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশের বিভাজন দিয়ে এবং একাত্তরের যুদ্ধের উল্লেখপর্বে বলা হয় এ ছিল ভারত এবং হিন্দুদের একটি চক্রান্ত।
1971 not in Pak history
Eminent Pakistani research scholar and writer Begum Anam Zakaria, addressing a seminar styled “Massacre of Bangladesh in 1971” in Khulna on July 22, said that young generation in Pakistan are not aware of the history of 1971. Their history begins from partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947 while the war of 1971 is referred to as a conspiracy of India and the Hindus.
