As part of their world- wide programme, HuT leaders and activists brought out rallies and processions in different parts of Dhaka and Chittagong after Friday prayers on April 13. They also distributed leaflets inscribed with anti-government slogans. The activists came out from different mosques all of a sudden to bring out processions and raise anti-government slogans.

 

{special_block_1}Bangladeshi intelligence agencies have come to know that HuT runs a number of coaching centers in Uttara, Mohammadpur  and Mirpur areas of the capital. Students of these coaching centers are persuaded and encouraged to take part in killing missions and other clandestine activities of the organization.

 

HuT pasted a huge number of posters with anti-government slogans that included establishment of Islamic rule in the country, saving its sovereignty, its gas and oil and creating a powerful defense force free of  influence of the US, UK and India.

 

Posters visible at different points and strategic locations in Dhaka and its outskirts contained various calls including call for establishing ‘khelafat’ (Caliphate) by overthrowing the democratically elected government of Sheikh Hasina.

 

HuT that enjoys covert patronage from BNP-Jamaat clique is seeking to take advantage of the Rohingya crisis by exploiting sympathy to build support for itself. Recently it has been distributing leaflets in Cox’s Bazar and other parts of the country highlighting plight of the Rohingya refugees and criticizing the government’s ‘lackadaisical approach’ in this regard.

 

Nazmul Huda, a HuT activist arrested from Chittagong, has revealed details of activities of the militant group. According to him, Mahiuddin, a teacher of Arabic studies in International Islamic University (IIU) located in Chittagong, is the Coordinator of HuT network in Chittagong. IIU is virtually under control of Jamaat-e-Islami and almost all teachers and non-teaching staff of the university are Jamaat adherents. The recently executed Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali owned a number of houses in Chawkbazar area adjoining IIU. Most of the teachers and employees of the university are staying there.{special_block_2}

 

On the occasion of anniversary of the BDR mutiny (February 25), the HuT circulated leaflets in Dhaka cantonment areas appealing to the army personnel to take up arms and rise in revolt to overthrow the Sheikh Hasina-led Government and establish Allah’s rule. These leaflets accused Sheikh  Hasina of having staged the BDR mutiny to kill Army officers. The objective was to drive a wedge between the Army and BDR and whip up their passion for revenge.

 

Leaders and activists of HuT have been very active in various ways. Around 350 HuT leaders and workers  including its Chief Coordinator Professor Mohiuddin Ahmed of Dhaka University’s Business Management Institute, senior leaders Golam Mawla, Kazi Morshedul Haque and Mahmudul Bari were arrested on October 20, 2009 when the organization was banned. But despite this, there has not been any let up in activities of the radical organization. HuT activists are openly carrying out subversive and anti-democratic activities in support of their demand for introduction of Islamic rule in the country. HuT is an international militant Islamic group originally set up in Jerusalem in 1953 to fight for a separate Palestinian homeland. It established a base in Bangladesh in 2001 after the BNP-Jamaat Alliance came to power.

 

When Bangladesh unit of HuT was banned, the UK chapter of HuT held demonstrations in front of Bangladesh mission in the UK. HuT is banned in 20 countries of the world for its links with Al Qaeda and other international terrorist groups. The UK chapter of HuT has been providing funds through many covert channels to sustain activities of its Bangladesh counterpart.

 

HuT militants are being secretly organized to join hands with Jamaat and its student organ Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) to let loose destabilizing forces in the country and scuttle the ongoing war crimes trial.
