Foreign Minister calls on Saudi expatriates to send remittances through legal channels

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 9, 2024: Foreign Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud has called upon Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia to send remittances to the country legally.

This was informed in a press release received in Dhaka on Thursday. At a reception for expatriate Bangladeshis at a local hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday afternoon, the minister said, "There are about three million people of our country in Saudi Arabia. Every expatriate is a representative of the country and the country is known by their behavior. If everyone sends remittances through legal means, it is big for the country's economy."

Mentioning that Bangladesh's relationship with Saudi Arabia is very friendly and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government has made this relationship multi-dimensional, he said, "Earlier there was only a relationship of exporting manpower to Saudi Arabia. Now petroleum, agriculture, environment, infrastructure construction, trade-investment, technology, etc. We have made that relationship multi-dimensional with cooperation in the sector."

Dr. Hasan Mahmud, while attending the recently concluded 19th OIC Foreign Ministers' Extraordinary Session in Jeddah and meeting with the Saudi Foreign Minister and OIC Secretary General, said that the Saudi Foreign Minister and OIC Secretary General congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for forming the government for the 4th time in a row.

The foreign minister said that they have expressed their full cooperation on the Rohingya issue and work together to end violence in Palestine. In a very sincere meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's proposed visit to Bangladesh, petroleum purchase, industrial cooperation, etc. Hasan Mahmud said that the Saudi Foreign Minister has given priority to various issues in Bangladesh.
