Moringa are being imported from India through Hili land port

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 9, 2024: At least 285 tons of moringa arrived in 27 trucks in the last 7 days through Hili land port of Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur district. From which Tk 52.25 lakh revenue has been received.

Haroon Ur Rashid Haroon, president of Hili land port import-export group of the district, confirmed this information to reporters on mobile phone. He said that the moringa have not yet come to the market. Due to the demand of moringa in various markets of the country, including Dhaka, these nutritious vegetable is being imported from India.

In the last 7 days, 285 metric tons of moringa have been imported from India in 27 trucks through Hili land port. Imported moringa till Sunday afternoon, have been taken by wholesalers from Hili to different parts of the country.

He said that due to the high demand of the vegetable in this season before the holy month of Ramadan and during the month of Ramadan, the importers have opened LCs to import thousands of stalks. The import of moringa from India will continue until domestic variety are available in the market.

He said that these imported vegetable is being supplied to different parts of the country including Bogra, Dhaka, Comilla, Chittagong. Importers said that its demand will increase in the coming holy month of Ramadan. Duty is payable at the rate of USD 150 per tonne and Tk 20 per kg. It is being sold at the wholesale level of the port at Tk 80 to Tk 90 per kg.

Wholeseller Abdul Momin said, the demand is increasing as the quality of sajan stalks imported from India is good. He can buy from Hili land port at Tk 80 to Tk 90 per kg and sell at Tk 100 to Tk 120 per kg.
