Potato prices increased, 400 metric tons imported from India

Dhaka, 17 March 2024 : Potatoes have been imported from India through Benapole land port in Jessore.

In the last two days, a total of 400 metric tons of potatoes have been imported through Petrapol port in India in two consignments. Those concerned said that this amount of potatoes has been imported due to the increase in demand during Ramadan.

On Thursday morning, two 200 metric tons of potatoes entered Benapole port in 8 trucks through Petrapole port in India.

Earlier on March 13, Benapole Port Director Rezaul Karim confirmed the import of 200 metric tons of potatoes in 8 more trucks. These potatoes were imported by a company named Integrated Food and Beverage.

The exporting company is PepsiCo India Holdings of India. A company named Transmarine C&F Agent has submitted the necessary documents to clear the potato shipment from the port.

Masum Billa, representative of Transmarine Logistics Limited C&F agent, said that 400 metric tons of potatoes were imported in 16 Indian trucks last Wednesday and Thursday. The import cost of potato per metric ton is 194 US dollars.

He said that the potato shipment will be released on Sunday (March 17). Benapole Checkpost Cargo Branch Revenue Officer Aziz Khan said that 400 metric tons of imported potatoes are awaiting release at the port.

All possible assistance will be provided for speedy clearance if the importer seeks permission for clearance.

Earlier last year on December 2, 74 tons of potatoes were imported in three trucks. After that, potatoes were imported in second and third consignments.
