Dhaka, December 22: Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Obaidul Quader has urged transport owners and workers to drive cautiously to avoid road accidents in dense fog.

He made the request while inaugurating BRTC bus service on Sylhet-Moulvibazar-Srimangal and Sylhet-Habiganj routes in a video conference from the Secretariat office on Tuesday (December 22). At the time, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen was present virtually.

Obaidul Quader said, "In winter, thick fog reduces the visibility. I urge transport owners and workers to drive carefully to avoid road accidents in dense fog."

At the same time, the four-lane Dhaka-Sylhet highway upgradation project will be raised for ECNEC approval next month, he said.

He said the Sheikh Hasina government has recently added thousands of buses and trucks to the fleet to transform the BRTC into a vehicle of public confidence. "What is needed now is the expansion of BRTC's network and the development of the company's management skills."

Noting that it is possible to reduce irregularities by increasing the use of technology in the service sector, the Minister directed to use GPS technology in trip management of BRTC as well as use its own operation software to strengthen monitoring and increase revenue.

At the same time, he called upon the people to abide by the 'as many seats as there are passengers' policy announced by the government during the Coronation period and to drive in compliance with the health rules.

Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department Md. Nazrul Islam, Chairman of BRTC Md. Ehsane Elahi, Range DIG of Sylhet, Deputy Commissioners of Sylhet, Habiganj and Moulvibazar and Superintendent of Police were present in the video conference.
