190 primary schools to open tomorrow in J&K: Govt

Srinagar, Aug 18: Nearly two weeks after the Indian government scrapped the Article 370, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday said 190 primary schools in Jammu and Kashmir will be opened tomorrow.

"Over 190 primary schools to open tomorrow," government spokesman Rohit Kansal told reporters.

"Relaxations provided in 50 police stations as against 35 police stations on Saturday. Duration in relaxation increased from 6 hours to 8 hours," he said.

He said government offices will be fully functional in the Valley from Monday.

Meanwhile, officials said no untoward incident reported from areas where relaxation was provided.

Officials said efforts are being made to restore all landlines to their full functionality as soon as possible.

Jammu and Kashmir will complete two weeks on Monday since the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government made major announcements by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A that had granted special power to the former state.

The government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.

Article 35A of the Indian Constitution allowed the Jammu and Kashmir state's legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and also provided special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.

Article 370 allowed Jammu and Kashmir to have its own constitution, flag and right to handle its own laws except on matters that impact national security.
