Bangladesh wants solution to unresolved issues including Teesta river dispute

New Delhi, February 25: Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen has sought India's cooperation in resolving the unresolved issues as well as expeditious termination of the common river water, including Teesta, sharing agreement.

Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen held a bilateral meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla in Delhi on Thursday (February 24). At this time he wants cooperation in resolving unresolved issues.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two Foreign Secretaries discussed issues of mutual interest during the meeting. They expressed satisfaction over the excellent bilateral relations that exist between the two countries and stressed the need to work together to deepen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.

During the meeting, Momen-Shringla emphasized on working together to deepen relations in various fields, including economic and trade sectors, border management, counter-terrorism, water sharing, connectivity and people-to-people contacts. The two sides discussed possible high-level visits in the coming months, as well as what could be more involved in the future.

Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen has discussed the resumption of bus and rail links between Bangladesh and India. He also called upon the Indian Foreign Secretary to extend necessary cooperation for the speedy, safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas.

The Indian Foreign Secretary reiterated the country's commitment to support each other on various platforms, including the United Nations.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh and India have agreed to hold a meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) after concluding all the sectoral meetings at the Foreign Minister level. The two sides agreed in a meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen and his Indian counterpart Harsh Vardhan Shringla in New Delhi on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran, DG ATM Rakibul Haque of the Bangladesh Ministry of External Affairs and Smita Pant, JS (BM) of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
