New Delhi, Aug 8 : Pakistan on Friday handed over to India a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, who was captured by their troopers for allegedly crossing the border, after the motorboat in which he was on a patrol duty malfunctioned in River Chenab and swept him away to the waters of the neighbouring nation.

The jawan, identified as Satyasheel Yadav, was held at Markiwalla camp in Pakistan. He was reportedly quizzed by the Pakistani spy-agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Field Intelligence Unit.

Media reports quoted him as saying that Pakistan treated him well. He was handed over at the RS Pura Sector in Jammu and Kashmir to the BSF commander after which he was taken to the battalion headquarters.

The decision to release Yadav was taken in a flag meeting between border guarding forces of  the neighbouring nations on Thursday.

According to sources, Yadav who was part of a team patrolling the River Chenab entered into the Pakistani territory on Wednesday as the engine of the motorboat collapsed.

While attempting to get into a rescue boat, Yadav fell into the river and was pushed by strong currents onto the Pakistani side. He was first spotted by the villagers there and then handed over to Pakistan troops.
