Washington, Mar 13: The United States on Wednesday said Jaish-e-Mohammed or JeM is a threat to 'regional stability and peace'.

He said the group's chief Masood Azhar meets the criteria to be designated as a global terrorist.

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino  told media: " Our views on Jaish-e-Mohammed and its founder are well known. JEM is a United Nations-designated terrorist group."

"Azhar is the founder and the leader of JEM, and he meets the criteria for designation by the United Nations. JEM has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks and is a threat to regional stability and peace," he said.

The US made the remark ahead of the meeting at UN Security Council on the Jaish-e-Mohammed chief.

The United States, Britain and France , the three permanent members of the UNSC, have moved a resolution to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.

China had earlier vetoed proposal to ban the JeM chief.

China is one of the members in the UN Security Council that enjoys veto power.

The JeM group had carried out a series of attacks in India, including the Feb 14 Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF personnel died.
