New Delhi, Aug 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday broke his silence on cancellation of talks with Pakistan saying the neighbouring nation had made a 'spectacle' by engaging with secessionist elements in Jammu and Kashmir.

During an interaction with Japanese media, Modi said India desires to build peaceful, friendly and cooperative ties with the neighbouring nation.

The Narendra Modi government in New Delhi recently called off talks with Pakistan scheduled in Islamabad on Aug 25 between the two foreign secretaries after Pakistan envoy invited and met the separatist leaders of Kashmir in New Delhi.

Modi will visit Japan on Aug 30.

This is Modi\'s first bilateral visit outside India’s immediate neighbourhood as Prime Minister of India.
