Islamabad, Mar 11 : The special court bench in Pakistan, which is hearing the treason case against former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, on Tuesday excused him from appearing before it, media report said.

It directed him to appear before it on Friday.

The bench said the former  Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf might be indicted on that day.

On Tuesday,  Musharraf\'s lawyer  presented a letter citing security threats on him.

"During proceedings today the counsel for Pervez Musharraf, Ahmed Raza Kasuri argued before the bench that if his client comes to court as per directives and something happens to him, the court will be responsible," Geo News reported.

"After reviewing the threat alert by the interior ministry outlining the possibility of an attack similar to the one the killed former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer the head of the bench Justice Faisal Arab remarked that in light of prevailing security threats to Pervez Musharraf’s life the bench cannot order for him to be produced today," it said.

Musharraf returned to Pakistan in March last year after years of self-exile in the UK.

Musharraf rose to power in Pakistan in a coup in 1999. He had stepped down from the power in 2008 and was threatened with impeachment, which resulted in his self-exile.
