Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 16 January 2024: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that diaspora made a big contribution in creating global public opinion in the freedom struggle. Expatriates have contributed in every movement-struggle, liberation war. Now remittances sent by expatriates are the main driving force of the economy of Bangladesh. She said these things in an exchange meeting with expatriate Awami League leaders and activists at Ganobhaban on Tuesday afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina said, expatriates have contributed to our freedom struggle, any movement. When martial law was imposed in Bangladesh, when we could not work, expatriates protested. You do agitation and struggle, create public opinion, it is a great strength for us. She said, January 7 elections are over. I am grateful to the people, because the people came to vote spontaneously. Because BNP started distributing leaflets so that no one would come to the election, no one would vote. After the distribution of these leaflets, the situation turned around, people became more motivated, we must vote.

Awami League president said that a fair election was held in that case. It was our effort to ensure that the election is transparent, fair, that no accidents happen, and that a free and fair election is held. Due to which we bring reforms in one election after another. Because when military rulers seized power one after another, they started rigging the elections. From that place, we did that movement and struggle to return the rights of people to people.

Sheikh Hasina said that after Awami League came to power, the people of the country realized that the government is the servant of the people. The father of the nation made that announcement, I followed his footsteps as the father of the nation's daughter and made that announcement - I am not the prime minister, but as the daughter of the father of the nation, I will work as a servant of the people, so that I can change the destiny of the people.

She said, we got the developing country status, which was supposed to be effective in 2024, we have extended it by two years. The coronavirus epidemic, the Ukraine-Russia war, then the attack on Palestine, the attack on the children's and women's hospital. We are always with Palestine. To destroy a nation like this, to destroy women, is a form of genocide. We have sent help, will send it in the future.
