Security forces kill Islamic State commander in Afghanistan

Kabul, Apr 24: Security forces have killed a key Islamic State commander during a clearing operation in Chapa Dara district of eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan, media reports said on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Farid Dehqan told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was conducted in Saidor village of the district late Monday night.

The killed IS commander was identified as Qari Zahid known as Perai.

Some weapons and ammunitions were also discovered by security forces who escaped unharmed during the nighttime operation, the spokesman told the news agency.

IS has not commented on the issue so far.

Meanwhile, at least 60 people have died in a suicide attack which rocked Afghanistan's capital city on Sunday, officials said.

The attack injured 129 people, the Afghan ministry of public health declared on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, at least nine children were among the deceased.

The attack was later claimed by ISIS.

Reports said that a suicide bomber detonated his explosives close to a crowd, who were applying for their election ID card in Dasht-e-Barchi region of Kabul city.
