11.51% voter turnout recorded in Dhaka-17 by-polls

Dhaka, July 18: Returning officer Md. Munir Hossain Khan said that 11.51 percent votes were cast in the by-election of Dhaka-17 parliamentary seat. He gave this information while announcing the results of 124 centers on Monday (July 17) night. After 5 pm, the returning officer presented the results of various centres.

Attack on Hero Alam: EC says nothing happened in polling station, but the incident is unfortunate

Dhaka, July 18: Regarding the attack on independent candidate Hero Alam, Election Commissioner (EC) Md Alamgir said, "He (Hero Alam) tried to enter the center with many supporters. About 70 YouTubers were with him. He was then blocked at the gate. He was said that you can enter with your agent or four-five people. The rest were sent back from the centre. Nothing happened at the polling station. When he came to the road, some people chased him. It is very unfortunate incident. We have instructed the police to conduct a proper investigation. Hero Alam allegedly attacked at polling station

Dhaka, July 18: At the last minute of the polling, an attack took place on Ashraful Alam aka Hero Alam, an independent candidate for the by-election in Dhaka-17 constituency. Eyewitnesses said that he was attacked at Banani Bidyaniketan School and College center around 3:30 in the afternoon.

'Boat' wins Dhaka-17 by-election

Dhaka, July 18: The ruling Awami League nominated candidate Mohammad Ali Arafat has won the Dhaka-17 parliamentary seat by-election. He was elected unofficially by getting 28,816 votes in the boat symbol. His nearest rival independent candidate Ashraful Hossain Alam alias Hero Alam got 5,609 votes in Ektara symbol. According to this, Arafat defeated Hero Alam by a margin of 23,207 votes.
