Dhaka-17 by-polls: 15 candidates file nomination

Dhaka, June 16: Fifteen candidates have submitted their nomination papers to contest the by-election of Dhaka-17 constituencies. Among them, 10 people are nominated by different political parties. The remaining five have become independent candidates.

They are - Awami League nominated candidate Mohammad Ali Arafat, Roshan Ershadpanthi of Jatiya Party Md. Mamunur Rashid, GM Quaderpanthi Sikdar Anisur Rahman, Sheikh Habibur Rahman of Trinamool BNP, Md. Mojibur Rahman of Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), Md. Aktar Hossain of Mukti Jodha, Ashok Kumar Dhar of Democratic Party, Kazi Md. Rashidul Hasan of Zaker Party, Md. Rezaul Islam Swapan of Bangladesh Congress, Md. Kamrul Islam of Democratic Party.

Ashraful Hossain Alam (Hero Alam), Md. Tariqul Islam, Abu Azam Khan, Musaur Rahman Khan and Sheikh Asaduzzaman Jalal submitted nomination papers as independent candidates.

Thursday was the last day to submit nomination papers for the by-election of this seat. That night, the election officer and senior district election officer of Dhaka Md. Munir Hossain Khan shared this information.

He said that 15 candidates have submitted their nomination papers within the stipulated time. Their nomination papers will be scrutinized. The names of valid nomination papers will be announced on Sunday.

Nomination papers will be selected on June 18. Nomination papers can be withdrawn till June 25. Symbols will be allotted on June 26. Voting on ballot papers will be held from 8 am to 4 pm on July 17.
