Bangladesh beat Afghanistan to keep hopes for reaching semis alive

Southampton, June 25: Bangladesh put up another spirited performance in the World Cup and defeated Afghanistan by 62 runs in a group stage match to keep their hopes of moving to the last-four stage of the tournament alive on Monday.

Batting first, Bangladesh posted 262 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Then the Bangladeshi bowlers bowled out Afghanistan for 200 runs with three overs in hands.

 

This was Bangladesh team's third victory in the tournament.

 

They had earlier defeated South Africa and even West Indies.

 

Bangladesh now have seven points after playing equal number of matches.

 

Shakib Al Hasan (51) and Musfique Rahim (83) scored brilliantly as they posted ompetitive 262 runs on the scorecard.

 

Shakib Al Hasan once again shined with the ball and took five wickets to destroy the south Asian team who nearly defeated India on Saturday.

 

Samiullah Shinwari remained unbeaten at 49.
