"323 extremists" are surrendering today to return to normal life

Dhaka, 21 May 2023: 323 members of extremist groups in seven districts of the north-western and south-western regions of the country will surrender.

Today, Sunday (May 21), they will surrender to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal under the supervision of RAB-12 at Sirajganj Stadium.

During this time they will submit more than two hundred weapons. These extremists of Tangail, Sirajganj, Rajbari, Pabna, Bogra, Kushtia and Meherpur will surrender.

According to the RAB headquarters, these extremists were involved in various terrorist activities including kidnapping, robbery, extortion, armed attack, murder in the north and south-west of the country. Each has multiple cases against them for their criminal activities. They were on the run for a long time due to the raids of law enforcement agencies including RAB. Even if he wanted to return to normal life, he could not for fear of being arrested. Now they are returning to normal life by surrendering their life of crime. RAB started operations from 2020 to bring extremists back from criminal life to normal life.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB's legal and media wing, said that RAB's action plan to fight crime is multidimensional. RAB did not stop with the surrender of extremists. Under the direction of the Prime Minister and with the active participation of the Home Minister, RAB is always active in rehabilitating criminals to bring them back to normal life. RAB is not limited to only raiding process in crime prevention. RAB's innovative and timely initiatives in light of research and training create employment opportunities. Which has been reflected through various humanitarian and creative projects.

He also said that in this context, employment will be created for the family members of the proletarians and extremists in the southwestern region of the country including Sirajganj, Tangail, Bogra, Kushtia, Pabna, Meherpur, Rajbari districts. They will be rehabilitated in normal occupations through necessary support along with various trainings to make them prosperous.

A pilot program called 'Uday Pathe' is underway in Tangail to empower women members of 30 proletariat families through handicraft training. There are plans to allocate land for permanent housing of the landless.
