Sonali Bank Kidnapped manager of Sonali Bank returns to his family
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 6 April 2024: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has handed over the abducted manager of Sonali Bank branch Nezam Uddin to his family in Ruma Upazila of Bandarban. Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing, gave this information on Friday (April 5).
He said that on Thursday evening, members of RAB's intelligence team tried to identify the location of the perpetrators using drones in the area around the incident. Later they were contacted by any means. Our effort was to rescue the manager unharmed. We have done everything necessary for this. They left the manager at a place in the Bethel neighborhood of Ruma and rescued him from there. We are not mentioning the name of the place now due to the confidentiality of the investigation. He was handed over to his family later that night.
He also said that RAB had earlier detected the activities of armed terrorist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) with the help of the army. They provided arms and training to an organization in the hills called Jamaatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya in exchange for money. At that time we were able to bring all the members of Jamaatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqeera and some members of KNF under the law. The KNF was pretty much cornered by our continued operations. In the meantime, peace talks were also taken with them to restore peace and order in the hilly areas. However, during the peace talks, they once again indulged in anti-state terrorist activities.
Khandaker Al Moin said that on April 2, they (KNF) attacked mosques, banks and upazila parishads in Ruma. They carried out this attack in a planned manner. They came looking for the bank manager. At first, the bank manager Nizam Uddin refused, but later took everyone hostage, interrogated and identified Nizam Uddin. Due to the trick of the bank manager, they did not get any key to the bank vault that day. They kidnap the bank manager.
