1 killed in clash over establishment of independent candidate's election camp in Mymensingh

Dhaka, Dec 20: A person named Rafiqul Islam (52) died in a clash between two parties over setting up a temporary election camp in Mymensingh-4 Constituency.

The incident took place at Hutarpara intersection of Charsirta Union of the upazila at around 8 pm on Tuesday, December 19. Rafiqul Islam is the son of deceased Nur Hossain of Char Bhabanipur of the same union. He was a worker of Awami League.

Chairman of Char Sirta Union, Md. Abu Saeed, said that preparations were underway to set up a temporary election camp with the truck symbol of independent candidate Aminul Haque Shamim of Mymensingh-4 seat in front of Ainuddin's shop at Hutarpara Junction. Younger brother Farooq (40), elder brother's son Raju (28), Saju (25) and Rafiqul Islam quarreled over the construction of the camp. At one point, they got involved in a conflict. Rafiqul Islam was seriously injured. Later the locals rescued him and took him to the hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Main Uddin said, the body is in the morgue. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem. No one could be arrested in this incident.
