1 lakh 41 thousand km of rural roads paved across Bangladesh

Dhaka, June 23: Local Government Minister Tajul Islam said under Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), a total of 3 lakh 53 thousand 352 kilometers of road paving has been set as a target.

He said that currently the length of paved roads across the country is one lakh 40 thousand 699 kilometers. The length of unpaved road is 2 lakh 12 thousand 653 km.

This information was given by the local government minister in response to the question of Didarul Alam, a government member of parliament in the national parliament on Thursday. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the question and answer table at the beginning of the meeting.

Referring to the paving of unpaved roads as an ongoing process, Tajul Islam said that if the required funds are available, the unpaved roads are being paved in phases considering the importance and priority.

In response to Haji Md. Selim's question, the local government minister said that the population of Dhaka city is 2 million and 1 million. All of whom are receiving the service of Dhaka WASA. However, meter based customers are 3 lakh 87 thousand.

He said that the daily water demand in Dhaka is 210 to 260 million liters depending on the season. All of which Dhaka Wasa provides. Daily water production capacity of Dhaka Wasa is 275 to 280 million liters.

In response to the question of Government Party Member of Parliament Nurunnabi Chowdhury, the State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives said that under the Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives Directorate of Cooperatives and Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) currently the amount of defaulted loans of cooperative farmers across the country is Tk 140 crore 39 lakh 46 thousand.

In response to the question of the Government Member of Parliament Mozaffar Hossain, the minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office in the parliamentary affairs AK Mozammel Haque said that according to the data of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) 1 thousand 247 companies have been registered from 2013 to May 2023.
