10 policemen injured in clash with Jamaat in Dhaka

Dhaka, December 31: Police clashed with Jamaat-e-Islami in some areas of the capital. Police have arrested some people after these clashes. Besides, the police claimed that 10 policemen were injured in the incident.

After the Jummah prayers on Friday, a procession passed through the road in front of Abul Hotel towards Mouchak. The police stopped them. But the march continued. When the procession reached Malibagh Junction, the police stopped it again. Then there was a back-and-forth chase between the two sides.

Md. Shahidullah, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramna Division, said, We think it was a Jamaat-Shibir procession. They had Jamaat banners in their hands. When they attacked the police, they were dispersed. Some people have been arrested in this incident.

Meanwhile, after the Friday prayers, Jamaat activists chased and clashed with the police in the area from the north gate of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram to Shapla Chattar in Motijheel.

Jamaat also held the same programme in Dhaka on Friday in solidarity with the mass march of the simultaneous programme announced by BNP.

On Friday (December 30) evening, Deputy Police Commissioner of Media and Public Relations Department of DMP Md. Farooq Hossain said that 10 members of the police were injured and admitted to the police hospital as a result of obstructing the destructive activities of Jamaat in the city's Mauchak as part of the BNP mass rally.

On Friday (December 30), Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists clashed with the police at Moucha in the capital after Friday prayers. A procession of Jamaat came out from Moghbazar around 2 pm on this day. When the procession reached Mouchak Junction, they retreated a bit due to police obstruction. Later, when they moved towards Malibagh, the police resorted to baton-charge and fired tear shells to disperse them.

At that time, Jamaat workers chased each other with the police. Two injured Jamaat workers were detained and sent to Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital for treatment.
