10 travellers, who went missing in Sundarbans, rescued

Dhaka, 19 February 2023 : Shyamnagar upazila administration of Satkhira has rescued 10 tourists who lost their way in the deep forest of Sundarbans while traveling.

After a five-hour rescue operation, they were rescued safely at 10pm on Friday (February 17).

Shyamnagar Upazila Executive Officer Akter Hossain said that on Friday morning, 10 tourists from Jessore district traveled to Kalagachia Eco-Tourism Center in Sundarbans by trawler. On the way back, their trawler took a wrong turn and went into a canal deep in the forest. Later the trawler ran out of oil while searching for a way.

Meanwhile, the tourists in the trawler were terrified. At one point, when they told the matter to the tourists staying in the other boat, they were rescued after getting information.

He also said that two teams of the forest department, two teams of the tourist police, another team of the boat owner and a total of six rescue teams conducted operations inside the Sundarbans. After a suffocating operation of about five hours, everyone was rescued in a healthy condition around 10 pm.
