12 crore 64 lakh people vaccinated in Bangladesh

Own representative, Dhaka, January 3: The ongoing vaccination programme, including the booster doses to prevent coronavirus, are being conducted smoothly. Corona vaccines are being administrated from medical colleges and specialized hospitals to grassroot community clinics across the country, including the capital Dhaka.

On January 27 last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the vaccination programme at Kurmitola Hospital in the capital by administering the AstraZeneca vaccine produced by Serum Institute of India. Four more vaccines — Pfizer, Synoform, Mordana and Synovac — were added subsequently.

From January 26 last year till Saturday (January 1), the total number of people vaccinated in the country stood at 12 crore 84 lakh 8 thousand 479. Of those, one crore 58 lakh 54 thousand 715 people took AstraZeneca, 78 lakh 75 thousand 535 people took Pfizer, nine crore 11 thousand 393 people took Synofarm, 53 lakh 55 thousand 644 took Mordana, and five lakh 69 thousand 182 took Synovac.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, regular vaccination (first and second doses) as well as third dose — booster dose — vaccination programmes are gaining momentum. In last 24 hours (till January 1), 34,061 people, including 22,473 men and 11,588 women, have been jabbed with the booster dose. With this, the number of people vaccinated with booster dose has increased to 77,065.

Health Minister Zahid Malek inaugurated the booster dose programme on December 19 by vaccinating a health worker. Meanwhile, the ongoing vaccination programme without booster doses is also running in full swing.

In past 24 hours (till January 1), a total number of 8 lakh 78 thousand 794 people were vaccinated across the country including in the capital. Among them three lakh 13 thousand 999 people took the first dose and five lakh 64 thousand 795 people took the second dose of Covid vaccine.
