Dhaka, May 8: Out of 675 Bangladeshi stranded in Sudan, 136 have returned home. They landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:30 am Bangladesh time on Monday (May 8). However, these Bangladeshis did not come directly from Sudan. They arrived in Dhaka on a Bangladesh Airlines flight from Saudi Arabia's Jeddah Airport.

Earlier on Sunday (May 7), these Bangladeshis were rescued from Sudan and taken to Jeddah by the Saudi military plane. The matter was then confirmed by the Acting Ambassador of Bangladesh to Sudan, Tarek Ahmed.

Earlier, a press release of the Saudi Embassy informed that 135 Bangladeshis from war-torn Sudan arrived in Jeddah on three special planes of the Saudi Air Force. Then these Bangladeshis were welcomed at Jeddah Airport by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia, Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwari. Consul General of Bangladesh Consulate located in Jeddah Mohammad Nazmul Haque was present at this time.

Earlier on May 3, 650 Bangladeshis who were stuck in Sudan arrived at Port Sudan port from Khartoum, the country's capital. That morning 13 buses carrying them arrived at the port. The previous day on May 2, buses carrying 650 Bangladeshis left Khartoum for Port Sudan. After reaching the port, it can be seen that many Bangladeshis do not have passports. In this case, they have to create a new travel document.

It is known that 675 Bangladeshis were waiting to return to Jeddah from Port Sudan. They could not reach Jeddah due to delay in getting travel permit issue and ship schedule. However, 135 people were taken to Jeddah by air as no ship was available.

There are about 1500 Bangladeshis in Sudan. Among them, about 1,200 Bangladeshis live in the capital Khartoum. About 700 Bangladeshis expressed their desire to return to the country during the war. Among them, 675 Bangladeshis were brought to Port Sudan from Khartoum on May 3.
