14 get lifer in Bhola murder case

Dhaka, November 16: A court in Bhola has sentenced 14 accused to life imprisonment in the murder case of Abdur Rashid. At the same time, the number one accused Abul Bashar has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 1,00,000. The court sentenced the others to two years imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 50,000. Four people have been acquitted in the case.

Sunday (November 15) at noon Bhola District and Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Islam gave the verdict. Additional PP Advocate Aminul Islam Sarman confirmed the information.

The convicts are- Abul Bashar (60), Basu Majhi (45), Sadek Majhi (45), Abdul Jalil (45), Md. Kanchan Mistry (55), Fazle Karim (45), Samsuddin Hawlader (47), Shahabuddin (45), Alauddin (45), Kanchan Patwari (60), Abdur Rahaf alias Haque Munshi (50), Md. Siraj Hawladar (45), Nur Hossain (45) and Noman (30).

They are residents of Shashibhushan, Jahanpur Union and Ramaganj Union of Lalmohan Upazila of Char Fashion Upazila of Bhola.

According to court sources, Abdur Rashid, a resident of Osmananj Union in Char Fashion Upazila of Bhola, was returning home on May 30, 2013 at around 7:30 pm. At this time he was hacked to death. Later, Abdur Rashid's brother Md. Hanif filed a murder case against 18 people at Char Fashion Police Station.
