Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 11: The National Consumer Rights Protection Department raided the godown of Shyamal Store in Ishwardi Bazar and recovered 10,000 litres of loose edible soybean oil, 1,244 litres of bottled oil and 7,000 litres of mustard oil.

Shyamal Dutta Pal, the owner of Shyamal Store, illegally collected these edible oils before Eid and stored those in his warehouse.

Zahirul Islam, assistant director of the Pabna Consumer Rights Protection Department, conducted a raid on Shyamal Pal's godown in front of Nurmahalla Matrimandir in the city on Tuesday (May 10) at 11 am.

During the operation, he imposed a fine of Tk 20,000 and ordered to sell the stored edible oil to the buyers at the pre-Eid price. Ishwardi's Safe Food Inspector Sanwar Rahman acted as the prosecutor in the operation.

However, the buyers and common people present there expressed their displeasure as the Consumer Rights Protection Department had imposed a fine of only Tk 20,000, even after seizing such a huge quantity of edible oil stored illegally.

A buyer named Swapan Hossain said that the goods of Shyamal Pal's godown should have been confiscated and sealed. He also demanded such operations and raids against other oil hoarders in the area like Shyamal Pal.
