Dhaka, April 3: Arrangements are being made to send back 180 Myanmar border guards and army personnel who have taken refuge in Bangladesh and bring back 170 Bangladeshi stranded in Myanmar.

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said this during an exchange of views with journalists at Segunbagicha, Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

The minister said that 177 members of Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP) and later three of their army personnel have taken shelter in Bangladesh. In discussions with us, the Myanmar government has agreed to take them back. They offered the sea route, we were hoping to send them back this week, but as the sea is not favorable they will be sent next week or as soon as the sea calms down.

"Besides, we offered to bring back 170 Bangladeshis detained in various ways in Myanmar, they also responded positively to that," said Dr. Hasan.

When asked how the international response to the Joint Response Plan (JRP) meeting held in Geneva on March 13 to deal with the Rohingya crisis, the foreign minister said, "Our foreign secretary and the prime minister's principal secretary attended the JRP meeting in Switzerland and the response to our proposed funding and cooperation is better than last year."

BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi is alleging corruption against Awami League and the country is full of monks -- when reporters asked for a response, Awami League joint general secretary Hasan said that even the US FBI has testified against the corruption and money-laundering of the acting chairman of BNP. And the smuggled money of his younger brother, the second son of Begum Khaleda Zia, Koko, has been recovered from Singapore. Not only that, the country has become the champion of corruption in the world five times in a row while in power - they have so much to cover this.
