21 incidents of arson reported during 48-hour blockade across Bangladesh

Dhaka, Nov 7: Incidents of arson occurred in 21 places of the country during the second phase of BNP-Jamaat's 48-hour blockade, according to the fire service and civil defense. Out of these, 12 incidents were reported from Dhaka. As many as 41 units of fire service worked to bring the fire under control.

Officer-in-Charge (Media Cell) of Fire Service Headquarters Md. Shahjahan Shikder gave this information on Monday. He said that more incidents of fire occurred during the day than at night.

Shahjahan Shikder said that the fire service received reports of 21 fire incidents in the country including Dhaka from 4 am on Sunday to 6 pm on Monday. Among them, 12 incidents occurred in Dhaka City, four in Gazipur, Kaliakair and Narayanganj of Dhaka Division, four in Khagrachari, Anwara and Patia of Chittagong Division, one in Bogra of Rajshahi Division. In these incidents, 15 buses, two trucks, one private car, one CNG, one laguna got burnt. As many as 41 units of fire service and civil defense and 242 personnel worked to extinguish these 21 fires.

Analyzing the statistics, this fire service official said that majority of the fire incidents occurred during night. Out of a total of 21 fires in these two days, 16 fires occurred between 6 pm and 6 am and the remaining five occurred at other times of the day.

Meanwhile, the fire service received a total of 110 fire incidents reported from October 28 to November 6. Among them, 29 fire incidents occurred on October 28, 19 on October 29, one on October 30, 11 on October 31, 14 on November 1, seven on November 2, six on November 4, 13 on November 5 and 10 incidents on November 6.
